Welcome to Foundation Stage (Reception and Nursery)
Technical Wizards - March 2020
The use of technology is often a controversial topic – especially when it concerns young children. Our view in the Foundation Stage at Ladbrooke is that, like it or not, technology is a feature of all our lives and we should teach children how to use it responsibly. We have a range of technology available for the children to use whenever they choose, including child cameras, voice recorders, a laptop with mouse, remote control vehicles and smart boards. Wherever possible, we encourage children to use technology to enhance ‘real’ experiences and complement other areas of learning.
Focus on learning
An example of this is how the children were inspired to make their own version of Naughty Bus, by Jan and Jerry Oke. This delightful book cleverly uses photography and visual fonts to tell the adventures of a little red London bus.
Following a quick class discussion on the sorts of adventures our bus might encounter, the children went off two at a time to capture their ideas. There was lots of collaboration as they helped each other to compose shots, take pictures and create scenarios. The results were imaginative, inspiring and definitely worthy of publication. Finally, we sat and reviewed all the photos together, choosing our favourites to make into the Naughty Nursery Bus photo story.
F2 Visit the Library
Foundation 2 took an autumnal walk through the park to our local library. We were greeted by two of the staff and invited to gather in the children's section. The staff read stories and sang songs with the children and then gave them time to explore the books by themselves. The children were keen to delve into the shelves and select some books to look at. Each child was given a book called The Cave to keep. F2 thoroughly enjoyed the visit and many were keen to visit the library again with their parents.
Christmas comes to Ladbrooke Nursery - December 2019
There is magic in the air this month as seasonal preparations are in full swing. We made Christmas cards by painting a sprig of rosemary white and printing it onto black paper. We could also bring in cards for our friends and post them in our class post box.
The role play area took on a very Christmassy theme - perfect for sharing a giant roast turkey for dinner followed by a cozy chat in front of the fire.
Everyone was excited to welcome Santa to Nursery and the children must have been good all year because he had a sackful of presents with him. That wasn't the only entertainment. We were treated to a pantomime and pulled crackers with our Christmas packed lunch.
But the highlight of the season is always the Foundation Stage Christmas Show and this year we performed 'Babushka'.
MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM LADBROOKE NURSERY 2019
Autumn Activities - October 2019
Everyone has settled quickly into a new year of Nursery - just as well, as there is so much to learn about with the changing on the season. Here are some of the activities that have kept us busy this month, including making Leaf Man pictures, counting conkers, playing games and exploring on an Autumn walk.
