Ladbrooke entered 4 teams, made up from children in Years 4, 5 and 6. A Girls A & B Team and a Boys A & B Team.
Each round consisted of a singles match followed by a doubles match. Each game was the first to 11 points. Each team had to play 8 rounds, which was called a round robin. All points whether a win or lose counted towards the final all-round score.
At the end of the day the presentations were made. As you can see from the table below Ladbrook A girls came 7th while Ladbrook B came 8th place. Ladbrooke A boys came 4th place while Ladbrooke B came 7th place.
The girls and boys scores were then added together to get a final mixed score. Ladbrooke A came 3rd and Ladbrooke B came 5th place. Overall, the players thought it was a really good tournament especially when they came away with a bronze medal.
“This junior school tournament is a good introduction to competitive play for young players as it is a friendly tournament which encourages fair play and team spirit.” Said Ken Winchester, former HSBA chairman
