Good morning Year 6,

Happy New Year to you all, but it isn't the start that I was expecting!

As you will all be aware by now, Ladbrooke, as well as many other schools, will be closed for the next two weeks. I will miss seeing your faces in class but am hoping to do some live face to face learning when we all get used to Teams. Today, you will be receiving your username and password via email and I would highly recommend you attempting to log in and familarise yourself with this new learning platform. I have already posted some assignments! If you are unable to use Teams, please let me know asap.

If you are unable to get onto Teams, I will be posting your daily tasks on this page for a short time, so please check everyday.

Hopefully, it will not be too long before we are all back in the classroom learning together, but in the meantime I really need to you to demonstrate your excellent learning capabilities and work ethic by getting on (without moaning to your parents!) with the tasks I set. I will also be available on the phone (school number) and email (when I am not teaching the key worker children) so you can always ask, if you are unsure of a particular activity.

I will try to be as organised as possible, so you will probably find the daily/weekly tasks will be uploaded early, this does not mean you have to do them all early, but it will give you an idea of your next activities.

More detail will be given on these activities in the videos I will be uploading or any live learning through Teams.

Monday 13th - Friday 17th July 2020

Hello Year 6. Did you manage to listen to my goodbye message to you on Potters Bar Radio? I hope you enjoyed it. Well, this is your last week at Ladbrooke JMI School. For all of you, this week is going to be very relaxed, as it would be if you were at school, but for those children in school, this week is an opportunity to say goodbye to some of your friends, staff members and share another little surprise. You will continue to sign your shirts ready to take home as well as you reports on either Tuesday or Thursday, depending on what Bubble you are in. Those joining us on Thursday for our leaver's celebration will be given a bag of their books and their report to take home.

This week, I would like you to write a letter to your class friends, those you haven't seen in a while and after Thursday, may not see agan for some time. Tell them what you have been up to, how you feel about finishing primary school and any advice you might want to say - this is in plave of not being able to sign their shirts.

French - New video and lesson page to complete

TT Rockstars - make the most of this last week. Can you finish primary school further up the table?

Prefects - If you still haven't done this, please produce a, 'How to be a...' passage of writing, telling the new prefects how to successfully fulfil the role of ICT, Curriculum or Playground prefect.

I am looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday, so I can say goodbye to you all in person.

Home Learning

Please find a link to Year Six's home learning booklet

Whilst at home over the next few weeks, please keep busy with some of the suggested activities within the class booklet. Ensure you complete some Maths and English each day. I will be setting a daily task on this page - this might be taken from the booklet or maybe in the form of an activity from one of the suggested websites.

During this time, I think it would be a great idea to write your own diary about all that has happened. This historic world event will be looked back on in years to come and you could create a resource that your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will read in wonder. I know it may seem like a confusing time right now, but this will pass and things will go back to some kind of normal, but to make sure we never forget it, write your thoughts and feelings down to look back on.

Please don't feel like you have to do the daily tasks, they are just suggested. It is much more important that you are happy and healthy. Sometimes, you might just want to colour! I know I do! I have found some mindfulness colouring (that need to be printed off) for those times when you want to keep busy, but don't really want to think about it.   1   2   3   4

*CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service) have put together some resources at this time to support children who may be suffering with anxiety over the current (or other) situation/s. The link can be found here, where you will find videos, downloads, books, apps and website recommendations.

Book reviews

I hope you have been reading lots during this time. I love reading and am so pleased that I finally have the time to do so and in the garden as well, in between home schooling my boys of course!

Thank you to some of the class who have written reviews and emailed them to me so I can share. Have a read of them and see what books are being recommended.

I will be uploading a week's worth of work from now on, so it may look like a lot of work but it won't all be for you individually, look carefully for the work your particular group is being asked to complete. Any queries, don't hesitate to email but please be mindful that I am teaching all day so will endeavour to reply as soon as I can.

*Updated Thursday 9th July

I have recorded a little message for all the year 6 Leavers - which is being played on Potters Bar radio on Friday 10th July at 10am. It would be lovely if you could all listen live. The radio station can be found at this link - I have also been informed that you can listen through your Alexa if you have one - Amazon Alexa
You can listen to PBR1 through your Alexa device. Log in to your Amazon account and search for the “Potters Bar Radio” skill. Enable it for free, and then ask Alexa or FireStick to “Play Potters Bar Radio”. You may also use the Alexa app on smartphones and tablets.

I have also found out that Boris Johnson will be addressing all school leavers at the exactly the same time on Friday (I wonder which you will choose to listen to!). His statement could probably be listened to again at a later date. This can be found in either of these two places:

Obviously, you will need adult guidance to access these sites, as well as adult supervision when listening.
