Good morning year 3. We have made it to Friday and this means Madame Elena's French lesson. The link to the screencast is below. The sheet that you will need is available in the class notebook on Teams but I will post it here in the morning if anyone needs it.


Today we are going to be applying what we know about multiplying and dividing by 8 to answering questions. I have also posted an extension for today if you would like to have a go. Remember, you don’t have to do it but if you are completing the question sheets quickly and getting them all correct, take a look at it.



Today you are going to write the build up to the story 'The Fate of Fausto.' In school, when we complete a piece of writing we have a must, could and should success criteria. For today's piece of writing your must is to make sure that your capital letters and full stops are correct. Your should is to use inverted commas for speech and your could (if you would really like a challenge) is to include a complex sentence. I am looking forward to reading your writing tomorrow.

Today we are going to be dividing by 8.


How are you feeling today? Today we are going to be describing how Fausto felt at different points in the story.


Mr Smith has prepared a computing lesson for you today. This lesson will become available on Teams at 8am tomorrow morning.

Watch the screencast video then attempt the set task.

 Your task today is to write two short messages one Formal and another Informal to show you are beginning to understand different types of communicating and overall what should be included or importantly what should not.

Choose something simple to write about for both cases and think about how you would message someone formally and informally about it.

Suggestion: Perhaps type or write them in the same document or piece of paper and send in together.

Good morning year 3. Thank you for sending me your story openings yesterday. You are all doing brilliantly. Today, we are going to take a short break from Fausto and look at inverted commas (or speech marks as they are otherwise known). Tomorrow we will practise using inverted commas in our writing about Fausto.

The additional challenge is in the same format as our homework. Please don’t feel that you have to complete this alongside the White Rose sheets but if you are very comfortable with the White Rose and you would like to extend yourself you can complete one of the challenges from the extension. If you are completing challenge C and you are multiplying  90 X 4 start by doing 9 X 4 = 36 and then make it 10 times bigger so 90 X 4 = 360.

I have attached an example of a planning sheet below to help you. Think about what you are going to use to make your model and how you are going to attach materials together.

In English we are going to be writing the opening of the story 'The Fate of Fausto' in lots of detail. The link to the lesson is below:

Remember that you can use the model the teacher uses to help you with your writing - but please do make some changes to make it your own!


As you know, our topic for this term is ‘Incredible Inventions.’ We have already taken a virtual tour of the Science Museum and chosen some inventions that interest us. Today, you are going to take a tour of your home and choose an invention you have at home that has changed the way that we live. I think that I would choose my washing machine. I can remember my grandmother washing clothes in the bath. She would scrub them to get them clean and then hang them outside to dry. It would take her a really long time to wash everything.

I would like you to do a drawing of your invention and then write some sentences about:

  • Why it is important today
  • What life would be like without it

Later in the week you are going to be designing and making a model of your invention so please start saving boxes and recycled items that you could use.

Hello year 3. Here is today's learning for you.


Hello year 3. I am really enjoying the book 'The Fate of Fausto.' I hope that you are too. What has been your favourite thing about the story? Yesterday we looked at different types of words and today we are going to look at different types of sentences. The video will show you how to write questions, commands, statements and exclamations.
Your extension for today (if you would like a challenge) is to choose another story that you are familiar with and write a question, command, statement and exclamation for it. It could be a story such as Cinderella or Hansel and Gretel or it could be the book that you are reading at the moment. I look forward to reading your sentences.



Today we are going to use our learning from Tuesday and Wednesday to complete multiplication and division calculations. Your extension today (if you are up to the challenge) is to spend some time on TT Rockstars. 



Our topic this term is 'Incredible Inventions' and we would usually visit the Science Museum and look at some of the inventions over time. This year, we are going to visit the museum virtually! Copy and paste the link into the search bar and hopefully it will take you inside the museum.

Once on the site you need to click on level 0 (scale on the right hand side of your screen). Then by clicking on the screen and rotating 180° you will find yourself looking at the ticket office. If you follow the arrows and crosses on the floor which appear when you run the cursor over them you need to make your way past the ticket office and into the space area. Continue forward, through this area until you reach the gallery right at the end called ‘Making the Modern World’. Once inside this gallery you need to navigate around the outside and stop at the large display cabinets which line the room. Inside these, you will find lots of different inventions from different eras which show how they have changed over time. See if your parents can identify things which they had when they were your age!

Don’t worry if you can’t access the virtual tour, Mrs Dowdall has prepared a screencast for you to watch, which has some pictures of the relevant displays.

I hope you enjoy the tour! Once you have looked at the inventions, please choose three inventions that interested you and write a couple of sentences telling me what it is, why it interests you and how it has changed over time. After that, please enjoy wandering around the Science Museum virtually - it is one of my favourite museums.

I hope that you enjoyed the story 'The Fate of Fausto' yesterday. Today, you are going to do some grammar work based on the book. The video link below will ask you to write some sentences. If you would like an additional challenge, please write some extra sentences about what happened in the story. Try to extend these extra sentences using the conjunctions and, but, so or if.

For English, we are going to follow a series of lessons on story writing from the Oak National Academy. Today's lesson is looking at the parts of a story and ordering them correctly. The link to the lesson is below.

You will need to complete a story ladder as part of the lesson. In Maths, we are going to be looking at the 3 times table. Please find links to your maths lesson for today below.  There will be a video for you to watch and a sheet for you to complete. The sheets are the same as the ones that we have been using in class. I would like everyone to complete the first page and the challenge today is to complete the second page. These links will be posted both on Microsoft Teams and the school website for the next couple of days. The final link below is the answer sheet. Please don't look at the answers until you have completed the work but you should mark yourself the work before you send it to me.


In the afternoon, we usually do Science once a week. Although we have now completed our science unit 'Sound', there is a fun activity below which links with our new topic ‘Incredible Inventions’.


The link attached gives all the information you need to be able to make your own string telephone, but I would also like you to talk to an adult at home about what telephones were like when they were younger. What can they tell you about:

a)            How they made a call

b)            How big they were

c)            How they made and received calls when they were out and about

d)            When they got their first mobile phone

If you can, please take a photo of the string telephone you have made and forward it to me, together with some notes on what you found out about phones from the past.

Good Morning Year 3 and welcome to your first home learning day as year 3's.

In Maths, we have just started a unit on Multiplication and Division. Yesterday we learnt that when we multiply we need to have equal groups. Below are links to the next lesson in our sequence. There will be a video input, a true or false question and a worksheet. Depending on how confident you are feeling you should complete either the first sheet or both of the sheets.

In English we are reading lots of different poems. At this time of the year in year 3 we write a class poem about what winter means to us. Have a think about all of the things that you like to do at this time of year and write a sentence about each of them to form a list poem (a little bit like the explorer's rucksack poem that we wrote last week).

PM - ICT  - We are meteorologists

As you know we have been looking at reading, recording and beginning to predict the weather.

Following last week’s lesson on describing the weather from give scenes, you are today going to use what you’ve learnt to write a mini weather report on the weather outside of your window.

Remember to use correct terminology and also record the time of your report.

For example:

At 3:30pm on Wednesday the 25th of November 2020 in Potters Bar it is dark and gloomy with a temperature of around 13 degrees Celsius. The skies are partially cloudy with a small chance of scattered showers and a gentle breeze blows in from a North Westerly direction.

For an extension, you could go onto the Internet and select another town, city and/or country to search for the current weather there and as like above create a weather report for it.

You can type it up (if possible) or write your report on the paper that Mrs La Frenais provided for you. I look forward to reading them when we return back to school. Mr Smith

Welcoming you back to school.

Hello Year 4 – hope you’ve had a great summer and have made the most of the lovely weather we have had.

It has been great to see some of you out and about in Potters Bar, and be able to say hello, but I’m very much looking forward to welcoming you all back toLadbrooke and things getting back to normal.

I hope you could tell at our ‘picnic’, how excited I am at the thought of having you back in school to start your Year 4 learning journey. I can’t wait to get started on the Year 4 curriculum. We have some lovely stories to read together and great topics to explore.

Your parents have received a letter which details how you will come into school on Thursday and what you need to bring, but the main message is to bring your water bottle and no big rucksacks,only a book bag if you need to.

We will still be using the cloakroom for your coats and your pegs are in the same place as last year’s Year 4s. That is one bay along from where you were last year. Your pegs have all been labelled and they are in first name alphabetical order.

Unlike previous years, you were not able to have an afternoon with me in the year 4 classroom,when we would normally go through the classroom layout and where your trays would be, but in many respects it is very similar to Year 3. You each have your own drawer to put your book bag in (if you have brought one) and your water bottle will sit on the floor under your desk. In Year 4 I usually have most of the desks in row format and this is how they will be laid out on Thursday. I will put you in a space, but this may change as the term progresses. 

Unlike previous years, last year I have been into Year 3 to teach you on some Wednesday mornings, so I already know you a little bit and you know me, so that is a great start. So, that’s all from me for now, let’s all be ready to learn on Thursday! See you then.

Friday 17th July

Well done year 3. You have made it! Your final day of home learning and the start of the summer holidays! I want to say a big thank you to you and to your parents for working so hard at home.

Miss Hafeez and I also want to say a very big thank you for the thoughful gifts. They are beautiful and very unexpected. It has been such a different year to the one that we were expecting and this year group will always be very special to us both. I hope that you all have a relaxing break and I am looking forward to seeing you back in school in September where things should be a little more normal. Keep checking this page because I know that Mrs Dowdall is hoping to post a message to you all.

Only one more day to go year 3! You are doing brilliantly! Did you manage to do some tidying up on Monday? I am proud to say that I managed to sort out under my desk! I hope that you were just as succesful! Your task today is to ask a grown up at home what you can do to help them out.

If you would like something else to do, in school we have been designing our own theme park. Start by thinking of a theme and a name. Then design your own logo and think about the rides and attractions that you would like to include. We are going to draw a map of our theme park today.

Hello year 3! It was so lovely to see lots of you yesterday morning. I have missed you all so much and it was great to hear about some of the things that you have been doing. I was going to set Maths and English for today and then I thought about how hard you have all worked and so today's home learning is to watch a film. Once you have watched it, you could talk to someone about what happened and see if you can summarise the main points of the story. Happy watching!

Wednesday 8th July

Hello year 3. In school today, some of us took part in the 'Sock Olympics.' If you haven't had a go at home yet, it was a lot of fun. We did the Sock Throw, the Sock and Spoon Race, Sock Basketball, Sock Drop, Sock Throw and Sock Catch. My favourite was the Sock and Spoon Race. We have some good scores coming in already for Lincoln, Chester and York so please do email me your scores and I will add them to the sheet. The details of the games can be found below:

Hello year 3. It is Friday again which means that you have French to start the day. Here is the link to Madame Elena's lesson:

In Maths we are continuing with time and with the last lesson of the week on Oak National Academy.

In English, we are going to look at some reading comprehension skills on BBC Bitesize. The first option is an extract from 'Agents of the Wild' by Jennifer Bell and Alice Lickens and is the story of a young gils recruited to save endangered animals.

The second option is a series of comprehension and writing activities based on the book 'Slime' by David Walliams.

I hope that you all have a good Friday. Next week is 'Sports Week' so there will be lots of sporting activities posted on Monday (and some optional Maths and English for those of you who would like them).


Thursday 2nd July

Good morning year 3. A short update today. I hope that you are all becoming experts on telling the time. Today we are going to be telling the time to the nearest minute - looking at times to the hour.

In English, it is the second writing day of your Jungle Log. If you finished your log yesterday, you can use today to edit it carefully (or to have a well earned break).

Mrs Dowdall has another Science lesson for you too. Today’s lesson is all about muscles and how they help us to move.

There are 3 levels of challenge in the final worksheets and a short video film to watch.

Hello year 3. I can't quite believe that I am writing July! How are you all getting on with telling the time? For the past two days we have been looking at telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. This is something that you did in year 2. Today and tomorrow we are going to be telling the time to the nearest minute. The lesson for today is below:

Monday 29th June

Hello year 3! Welcome to another Monday of home learning. As it is a Monday, keep a look out on the home page for Miss Webster's Monday morning assembly.

In Maths this week we are going to be looking at telling the time. In year 2 you learnt to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes but we will go over this again this week using the Oak Academy lessons as a base. The first lesson is below:

Telling the time is usually a tricky maths unit in year 3 but one of the best ways to learn is to keep practising at intervals throughout the day and home learning is perfect for this.

In school we make our own clock faces so that we can practise showing different times. If you would like to do this at home there is a template below:
