Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that you had a lovely holiday and that you are looking forward to this new term's work...even if it is from a distance.
I will put some work on here each day for you to do. The same work can also be found on the Year 2 Teams page and it is better if you get it from there as it should be much easier to show me that you have done it that way.
Our maths lesson will use video links from Whiterose maths and we are going to be learning more about multiplication this week. You can also do some extra practise using Numbots or TTRockstars. You have your logins from last year.
Our English this week will be some New Year's resolution writing, some grammar based on compound words and then some writing about a snowman. I will try to create some screencast-o-matic videos to help you with the work on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
We will do some topic activities starting with some alien pictures on Tuesday.

Happy Holidays everyone. It's lovely to see the sun and blue sky today and I hope that you are all enjoying it.
I promised to put any of your 'Magic' stories on the website if you sent me and I am pleased to say that both Yritha and Claudia have sent me theirs. I typed them up so that they are easier to see on here and I have put them below.
I have also attached some more of the maths mysteries so that you can have a go at them any time in the holidays if you are looking for something extra to do.
Finally I have taken off the Vimeo videos as the screencast links started working again and the videos take up rather a lot of space!

The Magic Nose
In a house far away lived a nice, calm dog that had gold food and a magic nose. Dog would only use it on people who steal food. But some robbers came in the house and stole food. The dog put the magic nose on them.
One day later the robbers were small and the food was giant. The robbers ran as quick as their tiny legs could run. But in a flashing light the food was right behind them. It was a dead end and the food was about to eat them. Then one of the robbers said stop. The other robber said we will never steal food again. Then in a puff of white smoke they changed and they never stole food again.

The Magic Phone
Once there was an island called Easter Island and a boy called Archie and he lived here. Archie had blue hair, he was cheeky and he dyed his hair so many times. He had a toothy smile and he was a very happy boy. He loved all animals except scratching animals!
Archie had a magic phone, it could do all sorts of wonderful things, but only for Archie. The first thing it could do was make things vanish which was very handy if people were being mean. It could also make things as big as an elephant and as small as a pea, which was useful because he could make cakes bigger!
One day Archie was walking across a busy road when he saw two boys kicking a dog. This made him furious so quickly he took out his phone and shrank them so now they were the size of a rubber.
The two boys, Ben and Jamie, were really scared and ran away. All of a sudden, they found themselves in a busy city. They felt it was hopeless. The people were huge, they seemed as big as giants. How are they going to escape? The ran across the countryside and stumbled across a mouse in a mouse trap. The quickly helped the mouse out and, as Archie had been following them, he saw the whole things. He saw them and turned them back to their normal size. The boys had learned their lesson and were never cruel to animals.

Well it was so lovely to see you all this morning. You all looked really well and I'm sure most of you are quite a lot taller than I remember you!
Latest news. I am now putting the screencast lessons on here using vimeo. For some reason every lesson appears 3 times. I don't know how to stop this. You only need watch one of them.
The password for all of them is ladbrooke2 (It is all in lowercase with no space before the 2)
It seems that there is a problem with the screencast lessons...I have put too many on this month. I didn't know there was a limit, they must have buried that in what they call the 'small print'. I will have to try to switch to the premier version and hopefully this will make these lessons available again. I will do that when I get home this evening as screencast doesn't work at all from school.
Don't forget to look out for the video from Mrs La Frenais. That won't be affected by the problems with mine.
This week is the last week of term and I am really looking forward to seeing many of you on the school field on Tuesday so that we can say goodbye for now and I can give you all your work from the year. If you have things that you would like to show me that you have done, you can bring that with you, but I will have to take it away and look at it later as there won't be time on the field. Otherwise you can bring it to show me or your new teacher Mrs La Frenais next year.Ofcourse if you do some work this week and want to send me a photo of it, that is great too.
Our maths this week is all about time. Spellings are some more red words and English is to write a story. There will be lessons to help you do this.

This week is Ladbrooke 'Health and Fitness" week. I think we will all appreciate the importance of good health and fitness even more than usual after the challenges that this year has brought!
We normally have sports day during this week. It is always great fun with people earning points for their team! This year is different...but yet the same. We are still having a team sports competition, but this time you can compete in your own homes earning your points and sending them into school. We are calling it the 'socks olympics' and when you look at the events you will see why! I have suggested that you do the sock olympics events on Friday because that is the day all the year groups who are back at school are doing it, but you are free to do it on any day. You can just switch the work around for other days. I would have a look at the weather forecast as I think the events will work better if you can get outside to do them.
In English this week, we are going to be finishing the Magic Finger and in maths we are going to be learning about measures: litres; temperature; 0'clock and half past times; 1/4 to and 1/4 past times. As before I have put worksheets that you could use but you may prefer to do practical activities. This will depend on which works best in your home.
I have also planned some lessons where we will learn more about healthy living and especially about eating a healthy balanced diet.I don't know about you, but I have to remind myself occasionally that a balanced diet has lots of fruit and vegetables and not too much chocolate!
I look forward to seeing some of your work during the week. It would be good to have something from some different people that I can put on the website. I've got better at doing it now so I can do it more quickly than I used to.
Have a good week

I was delighted to see these lovely sentences which Megan did for Thursday's slow write. I also saw some lovely work from a few other people but I chose Megan's today as I haven't shown any of her writing here yet.
Sweeping above the trees, I felt happy and free. The clouds around me were as fluffy as cotton wool balls. I could hear aeroplanes in the distance and the wind blowing in my ears. Far away in the distance, animals were grazing in the midday sun. I spotted my house and saw some large ducks sitting on the roof. I felt worried because they may attack me.
I have just seen this lovely story by Nathan. It is from a few weeks ago but it is so lovely, I wanted you all to see it.
The Big Awesome Adventure
Once upon a time there was a boy called Samuel. Samuel lived with his grandma. One day Samuel said “I’m bored.” She replied and said “Go in the garden so Samuel did. When Samuel was looking in the garden he noticed a big red boat. “Hello there!” said a man. Urmmm. Hello replied Samuel.
“My name is John. Welcome to my boat!”
“I’ve never seen you in this garden before.”
“Oh I knew your dad!”
“What! You knew my dad?” Samuel said in a shocked voice. “Yes I knew your dad, he used to be a sailor with me. Anyway we have no time to talk. Do you want to come in my boat?” Yes please said Samuel.
“Well lift up my anchor and buckle up!” said John. Zooooom and off they went. They didn’t float, it didn’t fly, it hovered. But it wasn’t going forward, it was actually going backward. It started slow but it got faster and faster and faster! We are nearly there said John. “I am a little bit scared” Samuel said. “Your father was a brave man”” Bang!!! “We are there” said John. They both got out of the boat. Samuel looked around and said “this is my garden!” Wow! Look at that big footprint! Samuel said in a surprised voice. This is a T-Rex footprint but there are not any dinosaurs in my back garden. “Well I think you are going to find out soon.” Said John. And then out of the bushes was a T-Rex! “Oh my goodness” said Samuel. Don’t be scared said John. This is my friend Frankie. How are you?”
“I’m alright. I haven’t seen you in a long time” said Frankie. Don’t tell me this is Boris’ son!”
“Yes” said John “Doesn’t he look just like him.”
“You knew my dad too said Samuel. But then Samuel started feeling sad because his father passed away. Samuel was told that his father could not be found and he died in a shipwreck. And his mother was a nurse and Samuel barely saw her. That is why Samuel always lived with his grandma. A T-Rex is talking.”
“It’s alright, you don’t have to get too formal. Just call me Frankie.”
“H…H…H…Hello F…Frankie” said Samuel. “Do you want to meet the gang then?” said Frankie. And then his grandma called from the kitchen window. “Tea time, It’s teatime.”
“Oh no, I’m so sorry Frankie, Grandma is calling me for tea. Maybe another time? Said Samuel. “Bye” repeated John and Frankie. Then Samuel ran back through the bushes into his house. “What’s for tea Grandma?” She said “For today it is dinosaur nuggets and chips.”
“Yay!” replied Samuel, very happy. And that was the end of an awesome adventure.
Have look at Ettie's lovely piece of writing about Mrs Winter in the Magic Finger story. I'm sorry that it might appear sideways. These photographs seem to have a mind of their own.
As in previous weeks I suggest that the children do this week's whiterose lessons. They can use the resources linked on the BBC teach website or download the fluency and/or problem solving sheets that I have put on each day. Take a look at these two pieces of writing from the week. I think Eden and Flossie have both done very well.
Do you know the lifecycle of an Emperor Penguin?
It is May when the female lays one egg that is shiny. She passes it very carefully to the male to look after.
The daddy keeps the delicate egg warm in his brood pouch for 56 days. The is called incubation.
Eventually the egg hatches and the chick is grey, cute and so fluffy!
The baby needs some food so the mother comes back with some juicy fish from the icy ocean.
The parents have to make sure the chick doesn’t go on the frozen floor or it will die.
As the chick gets older it starts losing its fluff. This is called moulting.
It now grows black feathers which are waterproof because it needs to go in the ocean. The chick’s mother leaves it to find its own food and it gets so hungry that it goes in to the ocean and stays there for about 5 years before starting to breed itself.

Well this week we are reaching our final destination in our whiste-stop tour of the continents of the world...the continent of ....I hope you've guessed it...Antarctica. This will be the coldest place that we visit so lets hope that it cools us down if its very hot outside this week.
I am putting together some English and geography lessons and ofcourse we will be learning about some of the animals of the continent so that is science. We will have another art lesson as I know that lots of you have been really proud of the lovely drawings that you have done. But this week I have added some history and a science investigation. The investigation is later in the week, but you are going to need some ice cubes (we are learning about an icy continent after all) and some sort of pots/cups to put them in, so I thought I would tell you now so that you can make sure that you have some ice cubes available as it takes a while to make them in the freezer.

Here is a lovely Magic Paintbrush story written by Claudia last week. Can you spot any words ending with suffixes like -ment, -ful and -ly?
One sunny day in New Zealand, a beautiful teenager called Nina sat on the pavement drawing with a stick. She had long blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes like a river. Out of nowhere a fairy godmother appeared in a puff of rosy, shimmering smoke. Nina froze but the fairy godmother said,
“Don’t be scared my deary duck, pick one of these paintbrushes, but choose carefully.”
The next day Nina was very excited to use her paintbrush. She painted some carbonara pasta and it came to life. She was amazed. She asked her family to come down and they asked for more things like cherries and sweets. People soon heard the news and queued up at Nina’s house. They asked her for lots of things such as a pear tree, a shopping basket, pots and pans and beds.
One of the King’s servants told the greedy Prime Minister who wanted to meet Nina as soon as possible, so he told the servant to get Nina. He snapped at her and said,
“Paint me a beautiful wife with jewels and gold!”
She refused and the Prime Minister got very angry and rolled up his sleeves and threw her into prison!
The prison floor was dusty and there were cobwebs hanging from the ceiling.
Nina was not scared because she had her magic paintbrush. She painted a tunnel and superfast boots. She got down the tunnel but the Prime Minister was running after. She had to paint lots of fierce animals such as tigers, lions, baboons, monkeys and poisonous bats who came towards the Prime Minister. He ran away and was neve seen again.
The whole village celebrated with fireworks and a big party.

As we start the week, I want to send congratulations to Eden who has been working with his family to raise money for a children's hospice. He has been walking miles and miles and miles for a whole month. Congratulations Eden. You have found a great way to keep fit, enjoy nature and help other people. I wonder if anyone else has some interesting lockdown stories?
I am putting up the work for the week, beginning with an overview page for the work I intend to include for English maths and other subjects.
We are moving away from Asia to the continent of Australia, known alternatively as Australasia or even Oceania as it is more than just the country of Australia itself. Most of our work this week will be focused on Australia and its unusual animals.
Maths week beginning 15th June https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-2/
Maths for the week - We are up to date with Whiterose maths again as they had a week on fractions last week which we had already covered earlier in the lockdown. So we are starting to revise 2d and 3d shape. Use the whiterose taught lessons and then the activities that I post each day, or the activities from BBC bitesize daily lessons.
As before I will include links to fluency activites and problem solving activities. Do either one of these or both if you prefer. Both have 3 levels of challenge. The first sheet is always easiest and the last hardest. Choose the level which suits you.

Thursday's news
Hello Year 2. I have some news! I have managed to make a lesson for you where you can see me! I have recorded myself teaching a lesson about the layers of the rainforest. Unfortunately it wasn't in time to put it on Wednesdays lessons so you may have already done a very similar lesson, but it's not exactly the same so you might want to have a look at it again.
I have put a link for it with Thursday's lessons...it has the words screencast-o-matic in the link. If you click on the link it should open for you to see.
I'm sorry that it isn't perfect, my microphone kept stopping so there are some bits where I'm talking with no sound coming out and then I have to repeat myself, but hopefully it is watchable.
If you are able to watch it, can you let me know.
All of the teachers are hoping to do some lessons like this in the next few weeks. We hope that we will get better at it as we get used to it.
Have a lovely Thursday
Welcome back after half term. I hope that you had a really good one. My half term was good when I could get outside, but unfortunately I had to spend some of it doing housework which isn't much fun! I've put all the work for the week on the website below. I wish I could be with you to teach you it. I am missing all your smiling faces. Have a good week.
Do you remember Senna the Sloth? I brought him into school to see you when we wrote our lost toy stories. He's very excited now because this week we are going to be learning about his home continent...South America! He wanted to share this photo of his distant cousin in his natural rainforest habitat.
Maths - we have fallen behind with the White Rose lessons as we didn't do any during the art week so this week we are going to do the lessons we missed...they are to practise multiplication and division
You will find them on the White Rose site and they are for the week 5 begining 18th May. Look back a few weeks on here to find the link if you don't have it anymore.
I will put some links each day for worksheets you could use, or you could use the materials suggested on the linked BBC bitesize lessons.
If you already did these lessons, can I suggest that you take a week off from the White Rose lessons to let others catch up with youu? You could use the Oak National Academy maths lessons for Year 2 which are taught lessons similar to White Rose but there you will be practising shape and angles.
While I am thinking about the OakNational academy site, I wanted to mention that they have some lovely geography lessons about the continents which is something that we have been learning about. They are in the Year 1 section but they are full of information that is useful to Year 2 as well. You might want to have a look at the lesson about all the continents, and later the lessons about Europe, North America and Africa which we have already learnt a bit about. We will use South America, Asia, Australia and Antarctica as we learn about them in the next few weeks. Don't be put off just because it says Year 1!

Good morning Year 2. I hope you had a good day yesterday. I have just got in from my early morning walk and thought you might like to see a photograph that I took.
I keep seeing slow worms wriggling across my path when I am walking. This is one that I saw today. Slow worms are not really worms. They are actually lizards with no legs! They look like little snakes. I think they are cute.
