Foundation Stage Learning In Lockdown

22nd January 2021

We may be in lockdown, but we are still working very hard in Foundation Stage. Here is just some of the learning so far.

Home learning 12th January

Good morning Foundation Stage!

We will be posting activities here, just until the lovely people at Tapestry sort out their problems. I'm sorry it has been so frustrating for everyone (believe me...we share your pain!) and whilst this method is not perfect, at least it should be more reliable than we've had recently.

This week's story is Jack and the Beanstalk and below is a recording of the version we are using.

There are three tasks to complete today. The first is Maths, the second is Topic and the third is Phonics (which you should have received by email).

The attached Literacy and Maths tasks include an exploration of the number one based on an episode of Numberblocks as well as questions to check comprehension of our story. I have also recorded a lesson of the latter which can be accessed from the downloaded sheet.

Home learning 13th - 17th July

Good morning. This is the last week of term, but we are finishing with a Foundation Stage favourite - Supertato. In this story, Supertato organises a sports day for the veggies, but a mystery competitor may not be all she seems! Listen to the story, then we hope you feel inspired to have a go at some of the activities suggested. Supertato himself has even left a message and is looking forward to finding out what you do.

Have a lovely summer holiday!

Health and Fitness Week 2020

This week is our annual health and fitness week and would normally include a range of activities, culminating in Sports Day. Miss Webster has devised a home learning version for you to enjoy. There is usually a lot of competition between the school houses, and this year will be no different as you are invited to send in your scores for us to collate.

Click here for a list of suggested activities for the week, plus details of how to take part in the 'Sock Olympics'.

Good luck!

Home learning - Friday 3rd April

For our last rhyming activity of the week, I have made a picture of words that rhyme (clicking on the small picture will open it in a new window). These include the ones used earlier in the week as well as a few more. Please play 'I Spy' using the picture, but instead of something beginning with, try "something rhyming with..."

rhyme21. Sing
2. Mice
3. Stuck
4. Flan
5. Croc
6. Flea

This week we have been practising using the words ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ to compare two sets of objects. (At Nursery we use the word ‘fewer’ to describe numbers of countable objects, such as people or pencils. ‘Less’ would be used to describe smaller amount of something that cannot be individually counted, such as money, water or time.)

For today's task, please gather a collection of about 15 to 20 small items, such as small building bricks, pom-poms, beads, buttons or coins. Place the collection of items inside a small bag or box. Take it in turns to take a handful of items.

  1. Show your handful of items to each other.
  2. Who has more? Who has fewer?
  3. Put the items back in the bag and try again!
  4. Have a go at taking handfuls of different sizes. For example, sometimes take a big handful of items and the next time only take a small handful of items.

Questions to ask:

  • What can you tell me about the number of objects?
  • I think I have more than you – how could we check?
  • What makes you think you have more?

You can download and print tasks from Friday 3rd April.
