Day Three

A great night's sleep was had by all and some children even had to be woken this morning so they would be in time for breakfast.

Our first activity was crabbing and boat rides.  After a lovely walk down to Appledore, the children spread out along the quayside ready to see if they could catch any crabs.  The sun was shining but it was very windy and the crabs were not up for being caught but the children persevered and were rewarded with three crabs by the end of the session.  After much deliberation they named them Shelley, Snapper and Pincher!  Some of the children were brave enough to hold them and others just stood back and admired them from afar.  The boat ride was the highlight of the morning for some children.  They loved the exhilarating ride through the water.

Letters were distributed at lunchtime and everyone sang Happy Birthday to Tony whilst he blew out the candles on his cake. After a well needed lunch and a piece of birthday cake, the children then had a go at either abseiling/climbing or the tree hoist/traverse. It was great to see the children working together to pull each other up the tree.  The children were really impressed with thenselves when they managed to get to the top and said how scary it was when they had to lean backwards off the platform at the top to abseil down.  As part of the traverse section the children had a turn on a Gyroswing - this was a machine that the children were strapped into that then spun them in all different directions - there were some very loud screams while they were on the ride and some very wobbly legs as they walked away from it.

Our evening meal was followed by a coastal walk.  The children were driven down to Westward Ho! and then taken onto the beach.  After a short sandcastle competition (won by Katie), the children trapsed off in serach of rock pools and hidden treasure.  A few wet feet later and some interesting finds and it wa]s time to come back to the centre.

With the threat of missing the disco tomorrow evening if they do not settle quickly tonight I think we will have no problem getting the children to sleep later.  Tomorrow is another day and the sun is due to shine again.

Quote of the day "Oh good, I've found a wet puddle!"
