Year 2 Trip to Butterfly World
Year 2 have been learning all about 'Our Wonderful World'. We went to Butterfly World near St Albans to learn all about butterflies and other fascinating minibeasts!
It was a very rainy day, but we still had lots of fun walking around the lovely gardens and visiting the galleries. We learnt that butterflies lay eggs. These eggs hatch into caterpillars. The caterpillars eat...and eat...and eat. They shed their skins several times as they get larger. Finally they form a chrysalis and inside that crysalis, a magical transformation takes place. Eventually a beautiful new butterfly emerges from the crysalis.
We also learnt about amazing ant colonies. There are different types of ants in a colony and they all have a different role: the leafcutter ant brings leaves to the colony; the soldier ant protects the colony from invaders; the cleaner ant cleans out dead material and any dead ants and finally the Queen ant lays all the eggs!
In the afternoon we had the chance to play on some of the fantastic apparatus at Butterfly World before it was time to get back on the coach and come back to school.
See who you can spot in our photos....who can you see holding a cockroach?
