"Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything" - Plato

At Ladbrooke JMI School we believe that children should leave with a passion and enthusiasm for music. We want children to have an appreciation for different genres, to gain knowledge of a range of composers and compose their own music with a variety of instruments. We hope through good quality teaching, children will have a good knowledge of important musical terminology and will have a curiosity to explore and create music using these skills.

Aims

The national curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

- Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of the great composers and musicians

- Learn to sing and to use their voices, to create and compose music on their own and with others, have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence

- Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the inter-related dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.

Music at Ladbrooke

Music at Ladbrooke is taught through cross curricular topics.  The key skills for music have been identified and matched to the most relevant topic to ensure breadth of coverage and progression of skill.  Once a term, music is taught by a specialist music teacher. Please click on the link below to see what skills are taught and through which topic.

Musical Opportunities at Ladbrooke

If you love music, why not come along to the school choir, orchestra or recorder groups?  We hold an annual celebration of music each year in March and this gives the children who are learning to play muscial instruments an opportunity to perform and celebrate their skills.  A Ladbrooke's Got Talent event at the end of the year is also an opportunity for children with musical talent to perform.
